(2 Credits) In this course, you will learn an approach to planning for targeted differentiation to support your special needs students in the classroom. You will learn methods for developing differentiated lessons that support all students’ appropriate cognitive levels in your classroom. Then, you will explore how to implement modifications and accommodations specific to your students with disabilities. Through additional activities, article analysis, and action plan design, you will build an implementation plan supporting your students with special needs. This course will teach you a process in planning for differentiation and ensure that the activities and methods you choose effectively support student learning.

*The price of $245 includes Model Teaching’s course fee of $145 + VCSU’s credit fee of $100. You will only be charged $145 at registration. Once complete, you may request your credit and pay the additional $100 credit fee to receive our credit(s) from VCSU.

What You Will Learn In This Course

  • What differentiated instruction looks like in the classroom and how to reflect on your current differentiation practices
  • How to use Bloom’s Taxonomy as well as Webb’s Depth of Knowledge to plan lessons that meet content standards with appropriate levels of rigor and scaffolding
  • How to track student progress to ensure that your differentiation is guiding students to content mastery
  • How to document the modifications you make in order to meet legal requirements of IEP/504 plans and to guide future instruction

2 Semester Credits

This course falls under Valley City State University’s (VCSU) EDUC 2000 numbering system, for the purposes of credential/licensure designed primarily for electives or professional development/salary advancement purposes. This course is for 2 Credits and requires a minimum passage grade of 80%. Model Teaching is an accredited partner with VCSU. Upon course completion, you will be provided with 2 graduate-level semester credits, along with an official transcript and letter grade from VCSU for you to submit to your district or state department of education for your licensing and/or salary advancement needs.
