Measuring Growth in Writing Using Rubrics (Gr K-3) (Version 1.0)

(6 Hours) Participants in this course will learn what typical writing looks like for kindergarten through third grade students, as well as some common writing tasks they can be expected to accomplish.  This course will also cover the purpose of both holistic and analytic rubrics, and when each type is appropriate to use for assessment of student writing.  Participants will also learn how to develop their own rubrics to use to monitor the progress of their students’ writing skills.

  • What typical writing looks like for each grade level, kindergarten through third grade
  • The purpose of, and how to use, holistic and analytic rubrics to assess writing
  • How to create both holistic and analytic rubrics
