In this post-baccalaureate course, provided in collaboration with Humboldt State University (HSU), you will learn the Project Based Learning (PBL) Lesson Cycle and how to implement inquiry into cross- curricular projects that are aligned to specific objectives. Throughout the course, you will design your own cycle of PBL that can be immediately implemented into your own classroom. The course guides you through the development process with step- by – step implementation using templates, tools, and resources designed to effectively implement PBL into your current or future classroom. Then, after you have fully developed a complete PBL plan, you will explore the strategies involved in planning and executing individual inquiry- based lessons throughout the PBL lesson cycle.

You will be able to understand the components of a PBL learning cycle, an analyze common PBL misconceptions, and analyze, design, and implement the ten step PBL cycle for an upcoming classroom plan. You’ll also identify best practice in inquiry-based lessons and analyze, design and implement a lesson aligned to your PBL plan.

This course will provide you with an action plan for developing a PBL lesson cycle and inquiry-based lesson plans. You’ll also analyze current research and apply it to your teaching, and you’ll build targeted resources that will help improve implementation of the ideas in this course.

  • Analyze, design, and implement the ten step PBL cycle
  • Identify best practices in inquiry-based lessons
  • Analyze, design, and implement individual inquiry- based lessons
  • Compose targeted supplemental resources to ensure action plan implementation of student documentation and data collection in the classroom.
  • Analyze and defend research articles covering the main topics within the course, to reflect on the research’s impact in the classroom.
  • Plan, reflect, and report on implementation progress using a Classroom Implementation Plan.
