Explicit Instruction in Elementary Reading
(7 Hours) This course prepares you to implement the explicit instruction model into your elementary reading classroom. This research- backed method of teaching reading skills through a very targeted and specific gradual release method is a great strategy for your reading lesson design. Explicit instruction includes a modeling component, guided practice, independent practice, and a method of assessment. In this course you will learn how to select the correct reading behavior or skill for your student or groups, how to build a plan aligned to student goals, and how to implement the lesson into your classroom. You’ll interact with explicit instruction examples and learn how to implement a lesson plan into your own classroom. This is a valuable training for teachers of English Language Learners (ELL), students with learning disabilities, students that are struggling or are behind in grade-level reading content, as well as students in the general population. This online course provides a great overview of explicit instruction for new teachers and teachers not currently in the classroom.
